Alces alces, also known as a moose. I photographed this bull moose foraging in the Kawuneeche Valley in early August of 2020 near the Colorado River. Rocky Mountain National Park has an abundant population of moose that can be seen year round. These magnificent creatures are a subspecies and scientifically referred to as Alces Alces Shirasi. They are the smallest of the moose in North America. 🏔❄️☀️ @rockynps @nationalparkservice @gograndlake
Pelecanus Erythrorhynchos, or more commonly known as the American White Pelican, one of the largest birds of North America, takes flight over Shadow Mountain Lake. They frequently congregate, in mass, near the inflow from the Colorado River on Shadow Mountain Lake, returning each spring to the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. 🏔❄️☀️ @gograndlake @rockynps @nationalparkservice @perceptionkayak @wernerpaddles @nikonusa

On Memorial Day, Stella and I trekked along the East Shore Trail. On our way back, we had paused for a moment to look north across the lake into the snowcapped southern end of the Never Summer Range. This trail encompasses both the Arapaho National Recreation Area and Rocky Mountain National Park, on the eastern shore of Shadow Mountain Lake. It is the only trail that you are able to ride your bike on inside the park boundaries (No E-Bikes). 🏔❄️☀️ @rockynps @nationalparkservice @gograndlake
