With the purchase of our new Winnebago Micro Minnie FLX, Stella and I set out to find some comfortable, folding camping chairs to keep in the back of the Tahoe. Stella had her ideas of what she wanted, while I had something different in mind. I determined that the Big Agnes Big Six Camp Chair is what I wanted.
There are so many choices on the market for small, packable camp chairs that it can be exhausting if you don’t already know what you are looking for/need. For mine, I didn’t need one that was intended for backpacking. Instead, I wanted a comfortable, beefy chair, yet one that was light and compact.
COMFORT: The Big Six Camp Chair has a high back. The seat hight is around 20″ and the seat width is about 24″ wide. These measurements make the chair very comfortable for my size, and is exactly what I was looking for.
PORTABILITY: While I do not need to stuff this chair into a backpack, this chair is very portable. When packed in its carrying bag, it measures a 3.5″ X 21″ and weights slightly over 3 pounds. When I put it beside Stella’s chair, the size and weight difference is significant.
CONSTRUCTION: The construction of the Big Six Camp Chair is rock solid. The poles are made of lightweight aircraft aluminum and future a hub-less assembly mechanisms paired with robust shock cords. The seating material is made of High-tenacity Robic™ nylon with a polyester ripstop and waterproof coating. The Big Six Camp Chair has the ability to hold up to 300 pounds.
ASSEMBLY: Stella always scoffs when she sees me assemble the chair because it does take a few extra steps. She says it reminds her of setting up our tent. But truly, it is a breeze! In about one minute, you can have it removed it from the bag and be sitting comfortably. And, the chair self levels when on an uneven surface.
FINAL THOUGHTS: If you are looking for a camp chair that is comfortable, yet durable, I would recommend the Big Six Camp Chair from Big Agnes. The solid design and construction, paired with the ease of setup and portability, make for a great day lounging after spending time on the trail or water.
